Melissa Weckerle had 10 points and eight steals, Kelsey Robledo had seven points, and the Anzar Hawks defeated visiting York 33-20 Thursday in San Juan Bautista.

The Hawks are now 3-1 in the Coastal Athletic League and 5-8 overall.

“We started slow,” Anzar head coach Mike Bonomi said. “And then we started pressing.”

The Hawks silenced York in the first quarter, grabbing an 8-0 lead after eight minutes of play. It was 18-8 at halftime.

Anzar further distanced itself from York in the third quarter as well, when it outscored the Monterey school by a 12-3 margin.

The Hawks are off until next Friday when they will travel to Harker for a non-league contest at 4:30 p.m.
