The San Benito girls basketball team ended its two-game losing streak Thursday with a 61-42 over Notre Dame at home in Hollister.

San Benito got off to a great offensive start in the victory, thanks to strong shooting from Taylor Fabing, who it three 3-pointers on her way to 16 points. Defensively, the Balers struggled to open the game, but after a quick adjustment, San Benito was able to pull away.

After the first quarter, Notre Dame was limited to only 27 points as the Balers received strong games from Fabing, Denise Martinez and Anjelica Collins. Martinez scored 12 points for the Balers off the bench. Collins contributed 10 points in the win.

“We were scoring a lot but we weren’t stopping him,” SBHS head coach Ellie Burley said. “We tightened up a little bit and the rest of the game we allowed only 27 more. We controlled the pace. It was a good game.”

With the win San Benito improved to 3-2 inside the Monterey Bay League’s Gabilan Division. The Balers are 9-8 overall.

The Balers continue their season at 7 p.m. Thursday against North Salinas.
