SAN JUAN BAUTISTA
A little more than a month after falling to Pacific Collegiate by a narrow 57-52 margin on the road, the Anzar Hawks could not find redemption at home Wednesday night in San Juan Bautista where they lost to PCS again, this time by a 56-30 deficit.
The loss positions the Hawks at 4-3 in the Coastal Athletic League and in an uphill battle with both PCS and Anchorpoint Christian, which will visit San Juan Bautista next week.
On Wednesday, Alex Valles led the Hawks with 11 points and Mark Rania added 10, but Anzar couldn’t keep pace with Pacific Collegiate in the second quarter, when the Pumas took a 10-7 first-quarter lead and converted it into a 27-14 halftime edge.
“Their size bothered us,” Anzar head coach Ed Cecena said. “We were able to stay with them, but their size wore us down and our shots weren’t falling for us.”
Pacific Collegiate was led by Jake Hendricks, who deposited 14 points for the Pumas, while teammate Wyatt Tucker added 11 points.
“Eventually they just pulled away from us,” Cecena said. “We were getting shots, but they just weren’t falling for us.”
Anzar is now 6-15 overall. The Hawks will return to the court on Tuesday when they will play at Georgiana Bruce Kirby at 4:30 p.m.
