A jail inmate was transported to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on Wednesday after sustaining what the sheriff’s office called self-inflicted injuries.
The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. after the jail staff discovered the injuries during routine cell checks, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
He was relocated to a secure medical facility and remains in stable condition.
According to the sheriff’s office statement:
“All jail incidents of this nature are investigated and the investigation of this incident is underway. One of the components of all investigations is a review of our own work to see if our current policies and protocols were followed, and if any improvements can be made to our protocols. Preliminarily, it appears our staff adhered to our protocols.”
The jail statement included the inmates name, which the Free Lance is withholding due to the nature of the incident.
