Hollister’s Annual Fourth of July Kiddie Parade will be held as planned this year, according to organizers.
The parade, co-sponsored by the City of Hollister and the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce will start at 9 a.m. on July 4.
Children of all ages are invited to participate in the parade – they can walk, ride, roller skate or roller blade as they prefer. However, there will be no motorized vehicles allowed in the parade.
The parade will start in the commuter parking lot at the Veterans Memorial Park and run along Memorial Drive to Marguerite Maze Middle School where a short program will be held.
All of the participants in the parade will receive an American Flag.
The sponsors said the parade is a worthwhile effort that contributes to the health and well being of the future leaders of this community.
“The children that are in this parade may be the future members of the chamber of commerce,” said Theresa Kiernan, executive director of the chamber of commerce. “If we can give back just a little bit to the community through the services offered here at the chamber it will be worth it.”
The parade, which was a holiday fixture that ran through the heart of downtown Hollister for many years, was stopped in 1997 with the revival of the Independence Rally.
After a year or two layoff, the Fourth of July Celebration Committee brought the parade back with the current route along Memorial Drive.
The annual community fireworks display will be held on July 4 at dusk, in the field adjacent to Marguerite Maze. The fireworks are a gift to the public from the Fourth of July Celebration Committee and local fireworks stands.
