It is an unspeakably cruel act. To poison District Attorney John Sarsfield’s dogs, Whisper and Sundance, is a horrific display of inhumanity. And if it was done because of the prosecutor’s political entanglements – police are looking into whether that is the case – the perpetrator must be held responsible and punished to the full extent of the law.

To take the life of two loyal animals, to kill the pets of Sarsfield’s children is ghastly. How do you explain to your kids that their dogs – one was a birthday gift to his 8-year-old daughter – were killed, and it might be because of politics?

Sarsfield aptly described someone who would do that.

“Whoever did this is a coward. It’s one thing to have political differences with me – politics is just a game – it’s another thing to kill a little girl’s dog,” he said. “They’re the worst form of pond scum.”

We sincerely hope if anyone knows who did this that they call the police and turn them in. We want the perpetrator brought to justice so everyone can see them punished for this gruesome crime. Whatever your feelings are about Sarsfield and the job he’s done, we hope you feel the same.
