San Benito’s Jordan Davies medals with 46

The San Benito girls golf team had a goal to break 200 as a team this year, but after Monday’s dual meet with Everett Alvarez, they’ll have to shoot their sights a little higher.
Or, in terms of their score, a little lower.
The Lady ‘Balers compiled a team score of 200 at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club on Monday, defeating the Eagles’ 262 with ease.
Coach Chris Branon feels his team’s sudden upswing – San Benito carded a 218 against Gilroy last week – has to do with the in-practice competitions he employs, which reward the players with a coveted spot at the varsity meet.
“The competition is pretty intense. Now it’s coming down into the matches,” Branon said. “I’m very excited. Now we’ve accomplished our goal and two of them have accomplished their individual goal of breaking 50.”
Two players posted sub-50 scores on Monday, with Jordan Davies earning the medal with a 46 on the Gabilan Course, holes No. 1 and 11-18.
Nicole Rianda recorded a 49, while Katie Moeller (52), LaShea Dailey (53), Jenny Glosser (54) and Alexis Sanchez (62) rounding out the scorers for San Benito.
“This puts me in the mindset that we’ll be in the 40s consistently, and maybe even into the low 40s by the end of the year,” Branon said.
San Benito is scheduled to play at Salinas on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 3:30 p.m.
