The Gavilan women’s basketball team improved to 3-3 after
finishing with a consolation win in the Hartnell College Tournament
over the weekend.
On Sunday, Gavilan won the consolation championship by defeating
Monterey Peninsula College 75-30. The halftime score was 41-10. San
Benito grads Sabrina (21 points) and Jenn Tremblay had (20 points)
led the way.

On Sunday, Gavilan won the consolation championship by defeating Monterey Peninsula College 75-30. The halftime score was 41-10. San Benito grads Sabrina (21 points) and Jenn Tremblay had (20 points) led the way.
Tremblay was named to the All-Tournament team.
“We’re very proud of the way our team is playing now,” said head coach Mike Girardi. “We’ve had a strong defensive effort these past two games and on offense our passing has led to taking good shots. Our players are doing well with understanding the importance of teamwork.”
In the second round of the Hartnell Tournament, Gavilan won 50-32 over Cabrillo College on Saturday. The Rams were up 28-11 at the half.
Murphy led Gavilan in scoring with 17 points and had seven steals. Cynthia Pinto scored 14 points and had seven assists, and Nicole Donley scored 12 points, including two three pointers. Tremblay controlled the boards with 13 rebounds.
On Friday, Gavilan lost to Ohlone College (Fremont) 69-41. Ohlone is 7-0 and ranked No. 19 in the state. Sabrina Morales led Gavilan with nine points, and Donley scored eight.
The next game for the Rams is at San Jose Christian College tonight at 5:30 p.m.
