Learn Bridge in a Day will be hosted at Dunne Park, in the clubhouse on the corner of Sixth and West streets.

Linda King will be the host to an all-day event geared at introducing San Benito County residents to the game of bridge Feb. 2 for five hours in the Dunne Park Clubhouse.

“It is a new concept developed by a couple that lives in Atlanta, Georgia,” King said. “They can actually try on bridge for those who don’t want to commit for an eight-week session.”

In the past, King has offered the eight-week learning sessions for those who don’t know how to play bridge, with a regular game scheduled on Tuesdays throughout the year.

King has been playing bridge for 15 years and has hosted the club at Dunne Park for six years. The duplicate bridge games last about three and half hours each Tuesday.

“They will get introduced to the fundamentals,” King said of the Feb. 2 event. “It is fun and fast. I will have power point presentations along with the student manuals.”

She said in the two times she has presented the programs, in Gilroy in October and in Morgan Hill on Jan. 2, some new players were a little confused about the game, but they had fun.

“I went over fabulously,” she said, of the January meeting. “The location was good. We had so much energy from the new students as well as the returning players.”

King said she is working with some local schools to introduce the game on campus. The weekend workshop is free to San Benito High School faculty or students, though a reservation is required for all participants as space is limited. Those interested in the weekly Tuesday game are advised to call in advance to see if there is space available.
