As our government is trying to establish democracy in Iraq at
the expense of American lives on a daily basis, there are some
folks in America who are tearing democracy apart, piece-by-piece.
It is sad that it is happening in our country.

When citizens cannot have a private conversation without somebody listening in on them, then this becomes like the Gestapo in the early 1940s. Why should private citizens be concerned if someone overhears or overlooks over their shoulders just to hear what the private citizen says? This reminds me of the SPYING of another country in a different time and place, like Germany.
We in our community have individuals that will deny us the right to petition and the right to vote. It appears that the will of the people and freedom of speech does not apply to the residents of San Benito County. At one time, Russia had spies to hear and see what citizens were doing. I feel that we have that today.
Years ago, a person wrote to the Free Lance saying that history repeats itself and it has. For example, today there are those that want to dictate to the farmers what to do with their land that they and their families have been farming for so many generations. Also, these farmers have continued to provide jobs to us in order for us to make an honest living wage.
As a former farm worker, I say, “We cannot, must not, let a few have the power to dictate to us on how to use our own land rights.” I pass this message on to all members of our community, think back to what “high tech” did to San Jose. It provided jobs and housing. Do we want others to control our lives as Communist China is doing to its citizens?
