This week marks Holocaust Remembrance Week – a time for both commemorating one of humanity’s darkest hours and honoring the memory of its victims.
In his book “Survival in Auschwitz”, Holocaust survivor Primo Levi writes that the Holocaust was the physical, emotional and spiritual “demolition of a man.” By stripping individuals of their humanity and later extinguishing their last breath, the Nazis wiped clean their own consciousness and culpability.
For twenty years, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has raised the public’s consciousness so that “never again” will history bear witness to a man’s destruction at the hands of his fellow man.
Moreover, the museum has challenged individuals to speak for the voiceless by taking action against injustice, oppression, and acts of inhumanity.
Commemorate this week by visiting the museum’s website (http://www.ushmm.org/), where you will find a wealth of information, as well as discovering concrete actions you can take to honor Holocaust victims.
