Support health care reform
Private health insurance companies are keeping their promise to
raise premiums and copays with no changes in our healthcare system.
If the Senate plan, with no public option, is adopted, they promise
that copays and premiums will increase twice as much. The only hope
for lower copays and lower premiums for American families is to
adopt the House plan including a public option or make Single-Payer
the health insurance change for America.

Put Gavilan College Downtown

Everyone agrees downtown needs a major draw as part of its revitalization. I don’t think you can find much better one than a college. Lots of students and an educated workforce. Coffee houses and restaurants busy, support services growing, retail fronts replacing vacant buildings. Life! All within walking distance. It’s green and it’s good for downtown Hollister. Maybe there is no obvious site right now but why not get some good heads together to come up with ways to make it happen? We dropped the ball when we didn’t get the theater to move downtown. Let’s not drop the ball again.

Officials should put constituents before capitalism

Looks like Victor Gomez, Eugenia Sanchez, and Ray Friend handed a big favor to an out-of-town business thus harming a local businessperson. These three need to remove their capitalism hats when sitting in their city council seats and replace them with their government mantle. Government is a nonprofit system to help people.

Capitalism loomed large in the decision. I see capitalism as a system to make profits for investors. Capitalism loves monopolies and despises competition, not the other way around.

The Yellow Cab Company probably can’t believe their good fortune, while the local government failed a constituent.

This seems all the more strange as our San Tran vehicles seldom operate to capacity.
