Consolidating Water Districts Could Bring Benefits for Public
Editor,
Unless I am missing something, it would seem that combining the San Juan Bautista Planning Commission with the Historic Resources Board might actually lead to better planning for that unique place.
On the subject of combining, I have now learned that there are not quite 100 water agencies in San Benito County. Twenty-four are groupings of less than four homes on a well, which are lightly regulated and generally in remote areas. There are five “major” water agencies, and 66 smaller water companies serving four or more homes.
Again, many may be widely separated and unsuitable for consolidation. But Sunnyslope and Hollister would seem to be overdue to be joined, especially given the way their rates and fees are skyrocketing.
The San Benito County Water District operates two small water plants, as does the San Benito County Department of Public Works. It may be that this is a good thing in terms of consolidating accounting, billing, taxes and the like.
Perhaps one of these two agencies should take over more of the small water companies for this reason. But it is not obvious that both of them should be in this business.

Mosquito Abatement Tax Necessary for City Residents
Editor,
As living in the city, mosquito abatement is a necessary tax.
It will only work when all the counties in California have one.
As a country person, I am not sure if I would want a man and his Jeep on my property when I was not at home.
