Voices Unheard at Meeting

Editor,

I am writing about the Planning Commission meeting that took place June 20. The purpose of this meeting was explained as such in the Free Lance: “Commissioners will consider a list of findings for denial prepared by county planning staff.” I and everyone else who oppose the huge hotel did not know that the commission was going to reconsider public comments. So of course that meeting resulted in more people (none of whom were from Tres Pinos) speaking in support of the hotel. I do not think that it is fair for the commission to consider outsiders’ feelings on something that will change the lives of the residents of Tres Pinos.

As for the editorial saying that the county needs to look forward to increase tourism, especially for the wine industry and Pinnacles National Park: the Pinnacles seems to attract a lot of campers, so I do not believe that it is necessary to build a hotel 22 miles away in our small town. Those people who patronize the wine industry, if they need a hotel so badly, certainly do not NEED to stay here in Tres Pinos either. There is no reason that they cannot stay at the already existing hotel/motels.

Hotel Wrong for Neighborhood

Editor,

In response to Mr. Michael G. Smith last letter to the Free Lance. Maybe the Spur Hotel is a good idea to you, but would it still be a good idea if it were going to be built across the street from YOUR home or next to the bike path YOUR children use to get to school everyday? I really doubt it. The Spur Hotel is a great idea, but not in a residential neighborhood. Look at it as if you were a Tres Pinos resident, not a resident of Hollister.
