Of Letter Writing, Growth and Dirty Politics in Hollister
Editor,
It’s been so long since I have written a letter that I am afraid I may have lost my touch. Many of the people who claim they enjoy my letters and have been asking me why I don’t write anymore. I enjoy writing as much as you like to read it.
I got involved writing when I felt, in my opinion, that our country was going in the wrong direction. Especially when they tried to implement Measure G that we beat with 69 percent. Not being satisfied with the results, they came out with the Hillside ordinance. That was also disapproved with at least 80 percent. I never heard the end of it. I feel someone is set on with the feeling that they might hatch some eggs. That’s what I call dirty politics. Since the time I got involved I wrote 70 letters that I saved, one copy of each, including all the articles from the paper. Lately, I have been reading some and wish I didn’t find things I would disagree with. The time and circumstances you have to do what you have to do to convince the ones less experienced to realize that Measure G and the Hillside Ordinance was a disaster. It was driven by the environmentalists. Most of them from outside the county.
I did enjoy working with a great bunch of people and don’t regret it. The truth cannot be beaten and common sense cannot be replaced. I am glad I could motivate some of you. What you did was protect yourself, your family and your country. I am glad I kept all of this material. I will enjoy going through it once in a while. These letters must have some true and common sense because nobody has had the guts to challenge them. Only one person used my name to comment with no basis. I did respond and I haven’t heard from him anymore. I plan to keep what I collect so in the future my family can read it and try to judge me for what I was. I’d like to thank all of the supporters and I don’t want to say I am always right, but it is my policy to always say, “This is only my opinion.”

There’s More to Hollister Than Getting a Rally Together
Editor,
I see the mayor of Hollister is making time to meet every Tuesday to form a committee for the motorcycle rally ’07. I wish the mayor would look at the big picture, like the General Plan of Hollister instead of a three-day motorcycle rally.
I urge the mayor to meet with the RDA on Tuesdays too and try for a larger financial commitment in regard to the sewer plant project. The three-day motorcycle rally may put us on the map but look at the big picture and all the people affected by proposed sewer rate increases.
