Police are searching for a 40-year-old Hollister man who they allege shot his mother multiple times after an argument Sunday.

The crime occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday night in the 1500 block of Brighton Drive. According to Hollister Police Department Capt. Bob Brooks, the man had an argument over finances with his mother before he shot her “at least twice” with an unspecified handgun.

The woman was flown by helicopter to a Bay Area hospital, where Brooks said she is expected to recover from wounds to her face, arm and hand.

“We’re hoping someone will come forward and tell us any information on where this person is,” Brooks said.

The suspect, Ruben Garcia, is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, having hazel eyes and black hair with a “military-style” haircut and a mustache.

Police said he may be driving a two-toned, blue-over-silver Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck with a camper shell.

Garcia is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached by civilians, Brooks said. Instead, anyone who sees Garcia or has information on his whereabouts should call Brooks or Detective Carlos Reynoso at 636-4330.
