HOLLISTER

An 18-year-old Hollister resident is suspected of pointing a pellet gun at Earthbound Farm employees Thursday before firing in the air and toward at least one worker, said Capt. Bob Brooks of the Hollister Police Department.

Police arrested the man at about 4 p.m. Thursday after using a description provided by the San Juan Bautista business’ employees, Brooks said. Prosecutors, meanwhile, are set to arraign on charges alleging assault to produce great bodily injury, possession of a concealed dirk or dagger, and being under the influence of methamphetamine, confirmed Deputy District Attorney Patrick Palacios.

Brooks said workers at Earthbound, 1721 San Juan Highway, reported seeing the man come into one of the packing buildings before pointing and firing.

“One of them asked if he needed help,” explained Brooks, “and he pointed the gun at them.”

It is unclear from police reports who he shot at, but Brooks said witnesses saw him fire the weapon in the air once before he returned to his van. He then left the scene, and Earthbound employees contacted police.

“They gave a good description of the vehicle and suspect, so when he was pulled over, everything went well,” said Brooks.
