In a quiet transaction, the high-tech ordnance and explosives company McCormick-Selph Inc. was recently purchased by Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company.
The Arizona-based company purchased the assets of McCormick-Selph and its Hollister facility at 3601 Union Road, according to a written statement from company president Tom Walsh.
Walsh said the acquisition would serve to strengthen PSEMC’s standing as the largest supplier of energetic and explosive devices for aerospace and defense programs.
“McCormick-Selph is an established technological and market leader in the linear formed explosives market segment with an unparalleled reputation for quality and service,” Walsh said.
However, officials with Pacific Scientific did not comment on how much the sale cost or what the future plans are for the Hollister facility or the personnel.
McCormick-Selph was founded in 1948 to provide the Department of Defense with explosive charges known as “squibs.”
Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials was founded in 1975 to build a variety of pyrotechnic devices to support fire suppression systems on both commercial and military aircraft.
The purchase of McCormick-Selph was the latest in a series of acquisitions by Pacific Scientific in recent years intended to solidify the company’s standing in the explosives and energetic devices industry.
The other purchases include acquisition of the Aerospace Division of Special Devices Incorporated in May 2001 and Quantic Industries with a facility at the intersection of Highway 156 and San Juan-Hollister Road in August 2001. The combined company offers a strong and comprehensive product line, Walsh said.
Pacific Scientific Company is a division of the Danaher Corporation.
Danaher, a global multi-billion-dollar company designs, manufactures and markets a variety of products and services under the name of several well known companies such as Craftsman, Napa, K-D Tools, Armstrong and Allen, and The Mechanics Hand Tools logos.
Company officials said the McCormick-Selph plant in Hollister will continue to specialize in designing, developing and producing state-of-the-art controlled explosive devices for the aerospace and automotive industries.
