Air Force Airman Gilbert A. Rubio has graduated from basic
military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio,
Texas.
He is the son of Gilbert and Teresa Rubio, of Suiter St.,
Hollister.

He graduated from San Benito High School in 2003.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate’s degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Marine Corps Sgt. Miguel Garcia, son of Maria and Jose Garcia, recently returned from a routine, scheduled deployment on board the USS Peleliu, home ported in San Diego, while assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based out of Camp Pendleton.

Garcia is a 1999 graduate of Pinnacles High School and joined the Marine Corps in August 2000.

During the Deployment, Garcia’s unit conducted humanitarian assistance, security and stabilization missions in Iraq. They also patrolled international waters in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa to deter the transport of terrorist personnel and equipment.

Garcia’s unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment. MEUs are composed of more than 2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry battalion, aircraft squadron, support group and command element. With this combination, Garcia’s unit supplies and sustains itself for either quick mission accomplishment or clearing the way for follow-on forces.

Marine Corps Cpl. Monet Molina, daughter of Renee Avena, of Morgan Hill, and Roy Zamaripa, of Hollister, recently returned from a routine, scheduled deployment on board the USS Peleliu, home ported in San Diego, while assigned to the 13 Marine Expeditionary Unit based out of Camp Pendleton.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Michael S. Centeno, son of Marylin C. Bowen, of Redway, and Robert R. Centeno, of Hollister, and his fellow shipmates recently returned from a routine, scheduled deployment while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu, home ported in San Diego.

Centeno is a 1982 graduate of Gilroy High School and joined the Navy in September 1984.

During the deployment, Centeno’s unit conducted humanitarian assistance, security and stabilization missions in Iraq. They also patrolled international waters in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa to deter the transport of terrorist personnel and equipment.

Amphibious assault ships like the USS Peliliu are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons available.
