Michael Moore uses extreme examples to make his points and his latest documentary “Capitalism: A Love Story” is no exception.

“Capitalism: A Love Story” is a documentary that addresses the current economy of America. Moore presents various problems and unjust actions done by people in power on Wall Street and in Washington, D.C. Moore gives the audience a comparison between the life that he experienced when he was a kid and the gradual downfall of our economy today. Although the film is meant to be a rude awakening, it is inspiring. Basically Moore is explaining to the audience what’s going on, and informs the audience that they have a voice and can fix it.

During the opening credits of the eye-opening documentary an unsettling statistic came onto the screen. “Every 7.5 seconds, a home is foreclosed in America.” Moore shares the story of a sign company in Stockton that was in danger of being shut down, but that kept their business solely based upon one sign – “Foreclosure.”

He shares another story of a family that had 30 days to move out of their home that had been in the family for four decades. The family farm was a piece of heritage, and they were left with nothing and nowhere to go. Moore states that this is “a system of taking and giving, mostly taking.”

Condo Vultures in Miami is a company that has been profiting on the downturn by purchasing foreclosed homes for a fraction of the price that the previous owner paid, and then selling them for a profit.

“Everybody’s got the desire to go in and take advantage of other’s misfortune,” Condo Vultures’ founder said in the documentary.

It’s not surprising that an employee at the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street replied to Moore’s request for an explanation of a derivative by shouting, “Don’t make anymore movies.”

“The derivative is purposely confusing…they can get away with murder,” according to an ex-employee of Wall Street, in the documentary.

Another issue that was addressed is the unnecessary payment advances given to Judge Mark Ciavarella who sentenced juvenile offenders to PA Child Care, a juvenile hall in Pennsylvania. While hundreds of kids were sent to PA Child Care for ridiculous crimes including a teenage boy throwing a steak at his stepfather, and a 14-year-old girl creating a Myspace page about her vice principal, judges received more than $10 million. Ciavarella owns private planes, and a yacht named the “Reel Justice.” One child’s sentence went from two to nine months without a court hearing for an extension.

“One teen states, ‘He sent me away in less than four minutes, he sent everyone away; kids with minor and serious crimes, different situations.'”

“Capitalism: A Love Story” is a documentary that will keep the viewer interested and intrigued; it’s informative, and should be seen.

Moore tells viewers not to get caught up in conformity and reminds people of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Second Bill of Rights, which included the right to a job, an adequate wage and decent living, a decent home, medical care, economic protection during sickness, accident, old age or unemployment, and a good education.

Moore lays out the facts, he scares the audience a bit, and attempts to create hope and a desire for change. “Capitalism: A Love Story” doesn’t disappoint.
