On June 29, the Las Brisas Area Neighborhood Watch group started work to restore Las Brisas Park, according to the Hollister Police Department.
Led by Karen Percival about a year ago, residents noticed an increase in crime incidents in that area and formed a group.
One of the ideas discussed at the outset was fixing the park.
More than 40 community volunteers arrived at the park along with two City of Hollister Public Works Department employees to restore the park, according to the HPD.
Some of the work included:
– Re-painting playgrounds
– Re-painting hopscotch and 4-square games
– Re-painting and installing new wood on the tables and benches
– Re-painting garbage lids (they were badly defaced with graffiti)
– remove dead landscaping
– Cut back landscaping that was blocking the main entrance
– Remove all the weeds from the back area and entrance
– Remove graffiti
According to the HPD, the group plans a “phase II” for the Las Brisas Park project that will entail landscaping work at the park.
