San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men on burglary-related charges Wednesday after the suspected victim followed a hunch and led authorities to the stolen property.

Deputies Donny Thul and Brian Penny responded to a home on Fairview Road in Hollister on Wednesday afternoon when a resident reported several items missing from his home, said Lt. Roy Iler of the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office. The man said electronic equipment, a laptop computer, an Xbox 360 video game console, multiple video games and three firearms had been stolen.

When asked if he knew who might have done it, the man said he recently had seen his neighbor walk past his home with a hooded sweatshirt drawn close over his head and that the neighbor avoided eye contact. The burglary victim said he thought it was odd, since he had lived next to this neighbor for years and knew him well.

Iler said when the deputies investigated the home of the hooded man, they recovered the stolen goods and arrested the occupant and another man with whom the suspect also took part in the burglary.
