Hollister – No arrests have been made as the Hollister Police Department continues investigating the gang-related homicide of a 16-year-old Salinas boy Friday night.
Hollister police Capt. Bob Brooks declined Tuesday to release more information about the homicide and he didn’t elaborate on any leads investigators are following.
“It hampers our investigation if we release all the information we have,” Brooks said. “It wouldn’t be prudent.”
Angel Romero, a suspected Sureño criminal street gang member from Salinas, was shot Friday night by rival gang members with a high-powered, automatic rifle in the 300 block of Chappell Road, police said.
Authorities suspect five Norteño gang members played a role in the killing of Romero and 26-year-old Pedro Serrano Vasquez.
Police believe suspects in a light-colored Lincoln sedan began chasing the car in which Romero, Vasquez and two other 16-year-olds were driving, eventually firing gunshots.
Vasquez was shot in the hand and foot, and Romero was pronounced dead at an undisclosed Bay Area hospital Saturday evening from gunshots to his back and elbow, police said.
