Our first Red Phone caller of the week encouraged the Crimson
Crusader to get something done about the potholes on Freemont Way,
an alley in Hollister. Our caller, a keen woman, told the Crimson
Crusader that the potholes were so large that when it rained, one
could

go swimming in them.

Duly noted, dear caller, duly noted. The Crimson Crusader made a
quick call over to Street Supervisor Ray Rojas at the Hollister
Public Works Department to find out what could be done to rid the
alley of

swimming pool

sized potholes. Rojas said he was well aware of the fact that
alleys such as Freemont Way are in bad shape.

Rojas said he was well aware of the fact that alleys such as Freemont Way are in bad shape.

“We have a big problem with our alleys,” Rojas said Tuesday. “It’s to the point that some of them need to be completely redone.”

He said the Public Works Department is working with the city to see what can be done about this larger issue. Rojas said he would inspect Freemont Way in the coming days to see what if anything could be done in the meantime to address our caller’s concerns.

Where’s Dear Danielle?

Our next Red Phone caller, dismayed by the “prolonged” absence of Staff Writer Danielle Smith’s byline from pages of the Hollister Free Lance, asked the Crimson Crusader if Smith was on vacation. Unfortunately, dearest caller, Smith recently left her post at the Free Lance to continue her higher education.

Oak Island still unsolved

Our final Red Phone matter of the week came from a frequent caller who asked what happened on the Crimson Crusader’s trip to Canada to search for buried treasure. The trip, which was ill-conceived from the start, was aborted shortly after our hero realized the sheer amount of paperwork that would be required for such a dig. The Crimson Crusader opted to spend time with family instead of filling out paperwork during Christmas, but hasn’t given up hope on finding the elusive treasure at Oak Island.
