Veterans Memorial Park is the site of the annual Opening Ceremonies, which is one of Hollister's biggest sporting events.

One of Hollister’s biggest sports events of the year—the Opening Ceremonies—takes place on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park at 5 p.m. The event involves players from over 60 teams—Challenger Division, t-ball, Farm Division, Minors and Majors—who are escorted onto the field by players from the San Benito High freshmen, junior varsity and varsity squads.
After all of the teams are announced, the Tournament of Champion teams and the Little League All-Star teams will be recognized. San Benito High girls basketball coach Mitch Burley, who served just about every position on the Little League Board of Managers, will throw out the first pitch.
“We just want to recognize Mitch for all of the countless hours he’s put into Little League over the years,” Hollister Little League Vice President Rey Martinez said.
There will be a huge fireworks show before the kickoff of the Majors season, with the Red Sox taking on the Rangers on Field 2 and the Braves playing the Cubs on Field 3. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
