Resist the parade nonsense
Showy military displays go back millennia, to ancient Egypt and Greece and beyond. Yet, the U.S. has no consistent tradition of big military parades, especially since the Second World War. Why is that?
Ask any senior officer. She or he will explain that it’s because...
Questions on CSA program
If you live in a County CSA, you’re paying for services you may not be getting.
San Benito County has 27 County Service Areas (CSA). If you live in one of the following CSAs, the County has contracted with each CSA to preform maintenance of...
Letter: City should support the energy deal
To borrow from Lincoln, “Of the people, by the people, and for the people,” these words can apply to a program called Community Choice Energy (CCE) tasked to provide solar and wind sourced electricity for communities.

Guest View: Monterey Bay Community Power is right for Hollister
Like the vast majority of Californians, especially those on the Central Coast, I view the threat to our planet from climate change as an over-arching, existential issue. Assuming this idea was not put forward for merely partisan political purposes, it’s worth a look.
Guest View: Perplexed by doubts on the rally
I have a confession to make. I don’t read the Free Lance newspaper very often. As a writer and a business owner in town that may seem shameful, but it may also be the reason that I pass on it.
Guest View: Clearing the air on medical marijuana
In response to Marty Richman's guest view: Marijuana Ordinance Should Wait (Sept. 2 Free Lance) I offer this response:
