The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau on Monday held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the new Cienega Road bypass. The $1 million construction project on Cienega Road eliminates two dogleg turns that were close to 90-degree angles. The bypass connects Cienega Road at the first dogleg with Hospital Road. That new stretch is about 3,500 feet, Nazemi said. The project started in mid-January. Don Chapin Co. had the $994,000 contract. Funding came from impact fees, specifically those designated for the Montebello Estates subdivision.
