Editor,

It’s been interesting to read so much in the past about the city sewer and the Sunnyslope sewer problems. That makes me to look around at the millions of people in the Bay Area, Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County and Monterey County. It seems like they have a system that works very well. At least we haven’t heard any complaints. Seems to me the leaders of these areas, from 50 years ago to now, have been keeping their eyes open and thinking about the future.

San Benito County leaders were asleep during that time and continue not to learn from their mistakes. We all know this is going to be costly, but it must be done in a way that lasts. I am up in age, but when I decide to do something I always do it with the intent that it lasts me and the ones who follow. The world will stop if we only think about ourselves. I just hope the county and Sunnyslope Water District stick together and build something to lasts for many years to come. If each goes their own way, a patch here and a patch there, a hole here and a hole there, in my opinion we will head for a disaster. I don’t know anything on this subject, but if I was in charge I would try to learn from the ones who have had a success.

It’s hard to figure why the County of San Benito is always behind everyone else. It reminds me of when I was back in the old country. When I would herd my cows through the hills, I used to depend on one cow to give me a lift. Grabbing the cow’s tail makes the climbing much easier. Poor cow, I sometimes wonder how she felt about that.

The point is holding somebody’s tail is not going to do it. I am sure at my age I am not going to benefit from this. Time is getting shorter and shorter. Nevertheless, for as long as I feel responsible, I will not be afraid to speak from my heart. The truth is very powerful, you can’t go wrong. It bothers me that they are making this hard like it’s impossible. Our neighbors don’t think so. Only my opinion.
