Police alleged that gang members threw objects at officers as they attempted to seize a car outside a party on Caputo Court early Saturday morning.
Shortly after 3 a.m., officers responded to a report of a gang party in the street and discovered what they described as 25 to 30 suspected gang members drinking alcohol and playing music in the roadway.
As the suspected gang members all walked away from officers as they approached, one officer investigated a smell of marijuana from an open car window. Police reported that the officer observed a small handgun on the floorboard and large bags of marijuana.
According to a police statement: “As the officers were towing the vehicle as evidence to later obtain a search warrant, the group of gang members began throwing objects at them in the street. The vehicle was eventually towed to the Hollister Police Department and secured.”
The next morning, police served a search warrant on the vehicle and recovered a .33 caliber handgun and about 34 ounces of marijuana in different packages.
The drugs and gun were seized as evidence, while police are continuing to investigate.
Police did not list any suspects and could not be reached immediately for additional comment.
