ARRESTS

Felony Vandalism, San Benito Street

Police received reports of a man breaking windows in downtown Hollister at 1:59 p.m. Thursday and located a suspect who matched the description running down the 300 block of Sixth Street. Witnesses positively identified the 43-year-old Hollister resident in custody as the vandal, and he was booked into the county jail. Windows were damaged at the former Broken Wing, 500 San Benito St., the San Benito Bank office at San Benito and Briggs Alley, and the Red Cross, 357 San Benito St. The suspect was apparently over-celebrating his birthday, which had ended at midnight, police said.

Felony Robbery, Fourth Street

A 32-year-old Hollister resident was arrested by sheriff’s deputies at 2:50 p.m. Friday after they received reports that he had been involved in a crime at the Hollister Drive-In Market earlier in the day. The man had attempted to steal a soda, but was confronted by the clerk, at which point he struck a “fighting stance,” police said. The clerk attempted to call police, but the suspect grabbed his phone, threw it over the counter and fled. Sheriff’s came into contact with him on unrelated and unspecified charges later at Hollister Hills and determined him to be a suspect in the Drive-In case. The clerk was provided with a photo lineup and positively identified the suspect.
