Hollister police Wednesday night arrested a 47-year-old Hollister man after a pursuit near Wright Road that ended in an orchard, where officers were forced to break a window and tase him because he was uncooperative, according to a press release from the department.
At about 11:30 p.m., an officer attempted to pull over Cesar Lopez for a traffic violation near Fifth and Line streets, according to police. He accelerated from the area and drove to the north end of Westside Boulevard, where he proceeded through several orchards and plowed fields before becoming “high-centered” and losing traction, according to the statement.
When two officers approached him, the suspect locked himself in his car and refused to come out, according to police. After police broke a side window, the suspect resisted efforts to remove him and did not comply with orders to show his hands.
Police tased Lopez and took him into custody after a brief struggle. He was transported to the San Benito County Jail and booked on suspicion of resisting arrest, parole violations, possession of paraphernalia and failure to yield, according to police.
