Hollister – Police are searching for suspects in a gang-related attempted murder this week in which a bullet narrowly missed two Hollister residents driving in their car.
Residents of a home in the 100 block of Locust Street called police after hearing a single shot fired on Tuesday shortly before 10pm, Hollister Police Capt. Richard Vasquez said. After going outside to see what happened, the residents found that the rear window of their car had been shattered.
Two of the residents then got into the car and were backing out of the driveway when they heard a second shot. No one was injured during the incident, Vasquez said.
After hearing the second shot, the two residents drove off in the car – police do not know why – but returned to the home shortly thereafter, Vasquez said. Police arrived at the home minutes later, talked with the residents of the home and found a bullet hole in the rear window of the car and another in the passenger side door, Vasquez said.
Although the motive behind the shooting is unclear, police are treating it as an attempted murder because two people were in the car at the time of the shooting, Vasquez said. Police believe the shooting was gang-related because they have been called to the home on previous occasions for gang-related activity.
Based on the location and size of the bullet holes, police believe the shooter, or shooters, hid on a hillside across from the home and fired a handgun at the car, Vasquez said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sgt. James Weathers at 636-4330.
