Sgt. Greg Flippo speaks with a Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department officer prior to the bomb squad's inspection of the suspicious lunchbox.

Police are responding to an incident at Walmart at 7150 Camino Arroyo in Gilroy, according to the GPD Watch Commander, who could not provide any additional details at the time.

One woman who called the Dispatch said the entire store has been evacuated and police are stationed in the parking lot; another caller said police are responding to a possible bomb.

There is a suspicious package inside the store and police are waiting for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad to arrive, according to GPD Officer Dave Aceves. Authorities have confirmed the entire building is totally evacuated.

As of 4:05 p.m., roughly 75 employees were standing around in the parking lot. The managers declined to comment and told employees not to speak with the media. Walmart staff have barricaded all parking lot exits with shopping carts to prevent drivers and pedestrians from entering the area.
