Hollister police located more than 100 pounds of explosives that it then had destroyed at the airport with the help of an outside agency.
That discovery was the cause of a hazardous materials alert sent out after responding to a burglary call Monday in the 2300 block of Glenview Drive.
According to the Hollister police announcement:
Over 100 lbs of combustible/explosive materials were located at the residence during this investigation. The Monterey County Bomb Squad transported these materials to a predetermined location at the Hollister Airport and destroyed them as a public safety measure.
San Benito County Environmental Health has just cleared the residence of hazardous materials. These chemicals have been safely removed and stored.
This investigation is ongoing. A report is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for a recommendation on charges of multiple violations of possession and storage of dangerous and hazardous materials.
