After receive two reports in two days of a suspicious male in the area of Calaveras School, police officers have determined that it was a misunderstanding – the man reported as suspicious was there to check on his son who attends the school
Officers received reports on Tuesday that a man was talking to a boy who witnesses said appeared to be frightened by the man. They said the boy would not talk to the witnesses about what the man had talked with him about. The next day, they witnesses again reported that the man was near the school and trying to get the boy into his vehicle. When officers arrived, the vehicle had left the scene.
On Thursday morning, Officer Chris Wells conducted a surveillance operation in
the area of the school in an attempt to locate the parties involved. He was able to contact the alleged victim who reported it was his father that had been contacting him. While speaking with the alleged victim, the father arrived. The father and his vehicle matched the suspect description given by the witnesses. Wells was able to determine this was a misunderstanding and there was no crime involved
The father of the child said he was only checking on his son to make sure he was safe at the bus stop. He expressed gratitude toward the witnesses that had called in when they felt his son was in danger.
The Hollister Police Department said they would like to thank the concerned citizens who were watching out for the welfare of not only their own children but the other children in the area. People are encouraged to continue to report any activity they perceive as suspicious.
The Hollister Police Department would encourage citizens to call in right away when things seem suspicious. Obtaining a license plate of a vehicle or detail descriptions are very helpful as well.
