Finding God at the

Prime Time

I was just about ready to accept Michael Vick’s apology to the
NFL, the Atlanta Falcons and his fans after hearing his press
conference on Monday morning, which was his first public
announcement since his alleged involvement in underground dog
fighting.
I kept thinking that Vick actually seemed sincere
– right up until he invoked Jesus’ name into his apology. Until
then it all seemed so real. The second the standard Jesus reference
came out it all seemed staged by his lawyers and Vick himself as a
stunt for added sympathy.
Finding God at the “Prime Time”

I was just about ready to accept Michael Vick’s apology to the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons and his fans after hearing his press conference on Monday morning, which was his first public announcement since his alleged involvement in underground dog fighting.

I kept thinking that Vick actually seemed sincere – right up until he invoked Jesus’ name into his apology. Until then it all seemed so real. The second the standard Jesus reference came out it all seemed staged by his lawyers and Vick himself as a stunt for added sympathy.

The question is why is it that every athlete seems to magically find Jesus when the going gets tough, the heat is on and a jail sentence is in the near future?

Why can’t any of these guys find Jesus right from the beginning so that things like this don’t happen in the first place?

He should have also said that he just found his conscience, too. After all, if he had one before, he surely would have known all along that this behavior was wrong and wouldn’t have partaken in such a twisted venture.

Yet just a few weeks ago, this guy was allegedly rooting on dogs to maul each other to death in a barbaric environment and now, in what seems like the blink of an eye, he finds his Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Another thing, between Vick’s dog-fighting, Roy Jones Jr.’s cock-fighting, Barry Bonds steroids, Mike Tyson biting an ear off, and other athletes getting busted for assault and battery and/or firearm and drug possession charges, isn’t it time we quit calling these guys role models the second they join a professional team. Let them earn it first.

What’s most sick is because Vick is a star in the league and big money and business is involved, don’t be surprised if he does a handful of months of jail time and probation before he gets out and the NFL – which suspended him indefinetely – reinstates him again. In fact, I’ll say he’ll be competing for an NFL team by the start of the 2010 season, as long as the PETA lobby isn’t too strong at that time.

This is just another example of what often happens when someone gets too much money at too young an age. It’s also another example of someone who wasn’t able to rid himself of the bad influences in his life and opted to travel down the wrong path. Hopefully, Vick will learn something from all of this and hopefully all of the kids from Atlanta that are walking around with a #7 jersey on learn to buy another one.

This is another example of a guy who had it all and flushed it right down the toilet. Sadly, in our society there are a million Michael Vicks out there – most from either the professional sports scene or Hollywood. It just makes no sense.

I guess it just goes to show that, ” The love of money is the root of all evil.”  Maybe now that Michael Vick has “found” Jesus he will read that passage in the Book of Timothy – over and over and over again.
