I’d thought so many times about writing regarding this subject,
but I wondered if others in our community felt it was as important

I am disappointed to see the obituaries moving toward the back of the newspaper. I was disappointed when they actually started on page two and some of them got bumped to the back. I missed a couple of important services until I realized the change had occurred (somehow the small print has gotten VERY small!)
Our residents, whether good or bad, have contributed to our community for many years. I feel they deserve their “15 minutes of fame” even if it is in our obituary section. This is the last chance some of us will have the time to reflect on how this person affected our life, say something nice about them or be reminded to make that phone call to their loved one to share a consoling thought about that person.
Let’s take this very last opportunity to put our friends who have passed on in the Free Lance. For many, it will be their first time in the paper, and their last. Please make page two the obituary section, the ENTIRE obituary section. It’s the one thing that should have never changed in the first place. It’s a matter of respect.
