Around eight-tenths of an inch of rain fell near the city over the weekend, while the showers should taper off today with a slight chance of returning Tuesday night or Wednesday, according to a National Weather Service forecaster.

The showers over the weekend were a lingering effect of the system that caused last week’s storms in Hollister and throughout the region. Although there should be seasonably mild temperatures and mostly dry conditions today in Hollister, another frontal system is expected to arrive later Tuesday night and into Wednesday, said Bob Benjamin, a forecaster in the National Weather Service’s Monterey office.

Combining the rain totals from last week and the weekend, through Sunday afternoon, it brought the month’s precipitation to 1.24 inches, Benjamin said. Those rain totals come from a station 1.1 miles north of Hollister, while precipitation levels actually vary widely in the county due to its mountainous terrain.

As far as temperatures go, they should reach the upper 50s today, with lows Tuesday in the lower to mid-40s and highs in the upper 50s again, Benjamin said. For the weekend, residents can expect a slight warming and dry conditions, with temperatures in the lower to mid-60s, he said.
