The American Red Cross Monterey Bay Area Chapter is currently seeking nominations for its annual Hero Awards, which recognizes members of the community who have shown courage, dedication, and character through acts of heroism and kindness, according to a press statement from the group.
According to the announcement:
The chapter is asking the community to help identify and recognize these local heroes for their selflessness and courage. These people could be your neighbors, co-workers, friends, or family.Â
Nominations are being requested for the following categories: Animal Rescue Hero, Fire Safety Hero, Good Samaritan-Adult and Youth, Law Enforcement Hero, Medical Professional Hero, and Military Hero.
Nominations may be made online at www.arcmontereybay.org or by requesting a nomination form from the chapter. The deadline to submit nominations is Feb. 28.
All nominees must work or reside in Monterey or San Benito County; though the heroic acts may have occurred elsewhere. Nominees for the Hero Award must have performed an act or acts of courage to save or attempt to save someone’s life. The heroic event must have occurred between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.
The Hero Award recipients will be selected by a committee of community leaders based on the degree to which their acts of heroism uphold the values of the American Red Cross and leave a lasting and positive impact on the residents of the Monterey and San Benito Counties. Heroes will be honored at a dinner celebration on Thursday, May 14th at the Naval Postgraduate School.
