Sunnyslope Road is shown at Fairview Road, several blocks east of the site in question.

A local resident has been concerned about several traffic accidents at Sunnyslope and Dry Creek roads.

The reader said in an email to the Free Lance that the accidents were a result of a “blind downhill corner leading to” Fairview Road. The resident said he has been in contact with city engineering official David Rubcic, but that nothing has come from the communication.

Rubcic this week confirmed he had talked to the concerned resident and said the intersection’s level of traffic does not qualify for a stop sign. He did acknowledge that he had yet to receive traffic accident records that he requested from the Hollister Police Department.

Rubcic also mentioned that the city recently increased the speed limit in that particular area.

Still, he asserted there just aren’t enough vehicles driving that stretch.

“We don’t feel it qualifies for a stop sign,” Rubcic said. “That’s just not enough traffic coming off of Dry Creek.”

Rubcic did, however, say the city will consider posting some other kind of advisory sign – to “give people advanced warning about the intersection.”

“We are taking a look at it,” Rubcic said. “It just takes a little bit of time.”
