With a 7-0 win over Notre Dame on Tuesday, the San Benito girls tennis team clinched a second-place finish in the Monterey Bay League’s Gabilan Division. The finish sent the Balers into a playoff with the top team from the Pacific Division on Thursday.

Tuesday’s win was dominant for the Balers, as San Benito never lost a set during the day.

No. 1 singles player Audrey Marshall continued her strong finish to the year with an easy 6-3, 6-1 win. Ally Triolo (6-1, 6-2), Kelsey Slavich (6-2, 6-0) and Amanda Alvarez (6-2, 6-2) gave the Balers a clean sweep from the singles players.

On the doubles side, Cathy Frusetta and Berenice Bribiesca stayed undefeated witha 6-0, 6-3 win. Partners Annie Tobias and Gianna Brigantino (6-0, 6-3) also crusied to an easy win. Kiley Fontain and Gwendolyn Fersnstrom finished off the San Benito win witha 6-3, 7-5 victory.

SBHS Water polo

The girls water polo team fell to 7-6 inside league play with the 11-9 overtime loss at home to Carmel on Tuesday. Both teams traded two goals in each of the first four quarters, before Carmel pulled away in overtime with three goals.

The Balers could only muster one in the loss.

The San Benito regular season ended Thursday in Salinas. Look online for an update.
