Aaron Hsia-Coron ran a 16:48, Valerie Quezada ran a 23:00, and both the boys and girls cross country teams from Anzar High defeated Marina on Thursday in Coastal Athletic league action at Gilroy’s Gavilan College.

Behind Hsia-Coron’s first-place finish, the Anzar boys easily defeated Marina 18-46 after the Hawks finished in first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth place.

Anzar’s Diego Leon was second overall in 18:09, while teammates Miguel Vega (18:44), Greg Bissell (18:54) and Josiah Garza (20:14) crossed the finish line in fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Freshman Noah Schaub was in eighth place for Anzar at 20:29, while Reno May rounded out the team with a ninth-place finish in 21:32.

On the girls side, Quezada’s 23:00 was more than a minute better than second-place finisher Ariyanti Sani of Marina, who recorded a 24:18.

Quezada’s teammates, meanwhile, finished in third, fourth, fifth and ninth place, as Anzar defeated Marina 21-33.

Third-place finisher Melissa Weckerle recorded a 26:08, while Emily Wilkinson clocked a 28:40, Mayra Quezada a 30:18 and Clair Mendoza a 37:07 to round out the team.
