The San Benito cross country team, which will compete this Saturday in the Central Coast Section Championships at Salinas’ Toro Park, was awarded the Avis Kelley trophy at the Tri-County Athletic League Championships recently, awarded to the most outstanding program in the TCAL.

Of the six divisions, including both male and female categories at the varsity, junior varsity and freshmen levels, San Benito earned first-place finishes in four categories.

Both the boys and girls varsity, the boys junior varsity and the boys freshmen teams earned first place at TCALs, while the junior varsity girls and freshmen girls finished runner-up.

This Saturday, the Balers will converge on Salinas’ Toro Park to compete in the CCS Championships. The Division I girls race will begin at 11:10 a.m., while the Division I boys race will start at 11:45 a.m.
