Hollister – In addition to the OffenderWatch program, San Benito County Sheriff Curtis Hill has applied for grant money to begin a Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Team Program.

The SAFE Team Program is designed to work with other counties near San Benito as a task force to more aggressively track high-risk sex offenders, ensure their compliance with registration laws and share information, Hill said. San Benito will work with Santa Cruz County, Santa Clara County and Monterey County, he said.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services will provide a $2,021 grant to San Benito County.

“It will provide enough dollars for overtime to have a deputy work with that task force,” Hill said.

Matching funds are not required for the grant, according to the OES.

The region’s application was submitted two weeks ago, and Hill said he should hear back from the OES within the next few months.

“We’re peeking over the horizon on this,” Hill said.
