SPECIAL TO THE PINNACLE Teachers took a tour to learn how to incorporate more about agriculture into their curriculum.

The San Benito County Farm Bureau has expanded its Ag in the
Classroom program to include an annual San Benito Educational
Agricultural Tour (San Benito EATS). Designed to complement and
further the goals of the annual Farm Day at Bolado Park for all
third-grade classrooms.
Farm Bureau staff members held the first San Benito EATS
workshop and field trip April 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day
started with a workshop on agricultural-related projects teachers
can do in the classroom. Stephanie Etchevarria, from the state Ag
in the Classroom program, provided ideas for using agricultural
themes in the classroom. Each teacher was able to participate in
hands-on projects during the workshop that align with state
educational curriculum. They received gift bags of
agriculturally-based resources to take back to the classroom.

Then teachers visited Fox Creek Ranch, in the Cienega Valley for a demonstration as well a barbecue lunch and wine tasting. The Hollister Ag Boosters cooked up tri-tip and the event was hosted by the San Benito County Cattlemen’s Association, FFA, Ausaymas 4-H club, Dole Foods, the Water Resources Association of San Benito County, Del Monte, San Benito Bounty and Headstart Nursery. Table hosts shared information about their company or organization during the meal.

Teachers later took guided tours of Earthbound Farm’s salad processing facility, Mission Ranches seed operation and saw a food safety demo at IEH Laboratories.

The event was made possible through donations from the Community Foundation for San Benito Bounty.
