San Benito County’s unemployment rate spiked in December to 12.1 percent, an increase from 9.7 percent in November, according to new data from the California Employment Development Department.
The figures – which are not “seasonally adjusted” – show that out of 26,600 residents in the county workforce, 23,400 of them were employed, according to the report released Friday.
That is an increase of 2.4 percent – while the number of unemployed citizens rose from 2,500 to 3,200, according to the data.
The statewide unemployment rate rose during that same month from 8.4 percent to 9.3 percent – with a decrease of 100,000 jobs in that time.
