Louise Galdos Branum will celebrate her 99th birthday Jan. 31, 2009.
Born Jan. 31, 1910, Louise came to Hollister at the age of 14; she was the first female employee at K & S Market, in 1940, which was then located on San Benito Street, in the Enterprise Electric Building. During WWII, the grocery store had a steady stream of soldiers from the Naval Base located at Hollister Airport. She didn’t retire from K & S until 1982. Louise has fond memories of the invasion of the motorcycles in 1947 and dancing all night with the bikers.
Louise has four kids; Pete and Mark Gomez, Marie “Honey” Cunha and Fran Galvin; 30 grandchildren; at last count at least 15 great-grandchildren; and one on the way.
She is the second child born to Beatrice and Tom Galdos, her siblings being Marie Vallejo, Louise Branum, Frank Galdos, Helen Garcia, Henrietta Liethle, Eugeno Galdos, Laura Baughman, Tom Galdos, Juanita “Neets” Marcus and Carmen Vieira.
Lauren Wolfsmith
Lauren Wolfsmith will celebrate her 16th birthday Jan. 30.
Lauren, daughter of Vikki and Dan O’Hara of Gilroy and Dave and Julie Wolfsmith of Morgan Hill, and sister of Lance Wolfsmith, attends Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill.
Her family, along with her family from Victoria’s Mexican Restaurant, wish her well on her sweet 16th.

Morgan Celaya
DePaul University student Morgan Celaya of Morgan Hill has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2008 autumn quarter. To receive Dean’s List commendation, full-time students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above on a four-point scale.
Serving more than 23,000 students, DePaul University is the largest Catholic university in the country and offers programs in the liberal arts and sciences, education, commerce, law, computer technology, music and theater.
Alex Jett
Army Pvt. Alex R. Jett has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Jett, son of Vicky Jett of Gilroy, is a 2008 graduate of Gilroy High School.
Chelsea Laning
Chelsea Laning, daughter of Brooke and Garry Bailey of Morgan Hill, has graduated from California State Umiversity, Monterey Bay where she studied kinesiology on an athletic scholarship for water polo. She received the CSUMB Female Athlete of the Year Award in 2007 and 2008. She was named All-American and All-Academic all four years she played water polo for CSUMB. Chelsea also set an NCAA record for the highest number of career goals (479) achieved by any collegiate player in any division. She plans to work with special needs populations.
Terilyn JoAnn Wassell
Terilyn JoAnn Wassell of Morgan Hill was named to Union University’s Dean’s List for the fall 2008 semester. The Dean’s List includes full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average on a four-point scale.
Founded in 1823 and affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention, Union University is characterized by quality Christ-centered teaching and learning.
Steven Roberts
Army Pvt. Steven M. Roberts has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
Roberts, son of Nancy Roberts and Michael Roberts both of Gilroy, is a 2008 graduate of Gilroy High School.

Savannah Carmen Alicia Gonzalez Perry was born Jan. 17, 2009 at Valley Medical Center to Selena Gonzalez and Sal Perry of Morgan Hill. She weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces.
