HONORS: Josie Olivares: Josie Olivares was named Gavilan College’s Employee of the Month for February 2013. She is a departmental assistant for the Title V grant and has been with Gavilan College since 2008.
Josie has been a valuable member of the Student Success Center for two years. She is always there to serve students with kindness and professionalism. Students always comment that they value the extra lengths she goes to serve them and the caring ear she lends them. Even the faculty have made it clear time and time again that Josie supports them in everything they need.

Gabriel Zurita
Gabriel A. Zurita, of Gilroy, graduated from Army basic training March 14, 2013, at Fort Benning, GA.
Pvt. Zurita successfully completed 10 weeks of training designed to challenge new soldier recruits both mentally and physically. New recruits were introduced to the Army way of life in the classroom, in the field and in the barracks. Training consisted of the seven core Army values, first aid, confidence tower, confidence obstacle course, teamwork development, land navigation, drill and ceremonies, nuclear, biological and chemical training, field training exercises, road marches, rifle marksmanship, combatives, battle drills, field tactics, assorted weapons training and the Army physical fitness test.
After graduation, Pvt. Zurita will be stationed at Fort Gordon, GA. for his additional AIT program.
Pvt. Zurita, son of the late Ed C. Zurita and Lorraine and Lazaro Garza, attended Gilroy High School and Gavilan College.
