The second man accused of being involved with the April 16 shooting in San Juan Bautista, was in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
Javier E. Estrada, 23, is accused of attempted premeditated murder with an enhancement of personally discharging the firearm to cause bodily harm.
The hearing was brief as public defender Harry Damkar said he was still awaiting information from the investigation. Estrada is scheduled to return back to court on Dec. 30.
Estrada is one of three suspects accused of taking part in the altercation that sent a man to the hospital with a single gunshot wound. Witnesses reported seeing a four to five people inside a vehicle that pulled up to the victim on Muckelemi Street in San Juan Bautista.
Two suspects left the vehicle and fired one shot at the victim before fleeing toward Highway 156.
One suspect, Gonzalo Ramirez, was arrested in April after witnesses identified him at the scene. Ramirez was sentenced Dec. 9 to time served and three years of felony probation after agreeing to a plea deal Oct. 15.
Ramirez was found guilty of assault with a firearm and released from custody earlier this month. Ramirez was originally charged with attempted murder.
As of last week, the sheriff’s office is still looking to apprehend the third suspect, Omar Aguilar, said prosecutor Patrick Palacios. He is accused of attempted premeditated murder.
