Deputy Dix, the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office canine, assisted in the location and arrest of a 17-year-old burglary suspect at 2:20 a.m. Saturday.

Police arrived to a residence on Donald Drive after receiving a report of a burglary in progress. Security guards there reported that they had witnessed a male suspect entering a shed on private property, so the canine handler released Deputy Dix to search, said sheriff’s Lt. Roy Iler.

The dog soon located a broken screen on the shed. Deputy Dix then continued his search on the west side of the building where he located a male suspect laying face down next to a golf cart, Iler said.

The suspect was arrested and booked into juvenile hall.
